The Rolling English Drunkard by G K Chesterton

The Rolling English Drunkard by G K Chesterton

£36.00

We have rather conflicted views on the writer G K Chesterton.

On the one hand, his ideas are not the kind of thing we uphold, the “little England” he espouses seems to be not just passe, but rather the sort of belief that we eschew. But sometimes, when he just catches the spirit of freedom and joy~~well, we too feel like we are free and joyful, and we are on the road with him! As much as one might not feel in sympathy with his world view, this poem shows just how good a writer he can be.

The book is 27.5 x 18cm. [14] pages (unpaginated) The paper was machine made at the old Wokey Hole Paper mill and was rescued by John Foreman, famed as the Broadsheet Balladeer. Cover paper used on the boards was created by Allan Drummond for Tessa Fantoni in the seventies.

It is hand set in Lectura type by Mike Tregear. This is the last face issued by last UK type foundry, Stephenson Blake, designed by Dick Dooijes of the Amsterdam Type Foundry. The Linocuts are printed from the originals cut by John Watson of Edinburgh, commissioned for this edition. We have printed less than 175 copies, each copy numbered, the Colophon signed by the binder.
