from £21.00

Poems from cradle to grave.

This is a collaboration between a poet who writes with a photographer's eye for detail and a photographer who believes that words can enhance an image. The 32 poems and 13 photographs in this book are from the work created for the Bradford Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. The subjects range from the babies who are part of the 'Born in Bradford' NHS study, a study tracking the lives of over 10000 children, to the hundreds of people who are using the care of the elderly ward. There are poems to celebrate the opening of a new MRI scanner 'Magnetic North', a suite of 'Tree Songs' written for the cardiovascular waiting area at Bradford Royal Infirmary. Rooted in the Yorkshire soil, these poems and photographs stretch far beyond the boundaries of Bradford to touch us all with their keen imagery of the circle of life from birth to death.

Also available as loose sheets for binding, from £15 (plus postage outside of the UK). Please email us for an invoice.

'It has been said that a photograph is the blink of an eye suspended in the closing of an eyelid, no more than a thin slither of time, place and event, frozen forever for us to contemplate, interpret and discuss. The words that accompany a photograph, be it a precisely worded caption or the handwritten scrawl on the back of a print, add to our understanding of that image. This relationship of word and image is something that has fascinated Ian McMillan and I for many years...' from Ian Beesley's introduction.

The Days Out, the Weeks Away is printed on Zerkall paper with Joanna types. It is 36 pages, and includes nine photographs tipped in and another four printed on the page.
